Parenting objects

Sometimes you want an object to be connected to another object. Maybe you want a character on a bus. Or a character to have a gun. In order to make this connection, you must use the Parent function in Filmatick.

Once a parent is added, the parent of the object will move the object. If a character is on a bus, the BUS is the parent object. If a character has a gun, the CHARACTER is the parent object.

The child is the object that is moved by the parent. Wherever the parent moves or rotates, the child moves or rotates with.

Adding parents only happens in the OUTLINER panel.

To add a parent

  1. Left click on the object you want to be the parent first.

  2. Press the CTL key (OPTION on a MAC)

  3. While holding down the CTL key, left click the object you want to be the child.

  4. Right click - a drop down menu will pop up.

  5. Left click on Add Parent.

To remove a parent

If an object has a parent, as noted in the outliner, you can remove a parent as simply as adding one.
