Importing a Model

Imported Models

The user can import a variety of models from other software packages. Bear in mind, the scale may be very different when importing them. You may have to scale down or up the model in order to use it in the set/scene/shot.

Archive3d.net is an excellent resource for free models, as is TurboSquid at a small cost.

If trying to import an .obj file with an associated .mtl, open the file in the 3d package and re-export it as an .fbx file.

Once a user imports a model, it is always stored in this project and can be used in other sets/scenes/shots.

How to import a model

  1. Click on the Import Model Icon

  2. A Window will pop up, prompting the user to navigate to where the model is located.

  3. Click on the location to where the model is.

  4. Click on the model name

  5. Click Open.

  6. A Model Import Window will open. Filmatick will create a thumbnail of the object. You can rename the object in this window if you wish.

    1. Click Import to finish the import

    2. OR Click Cancel to cancel the import

The thumbnail may be very small or very large depending on the scale of the object from the software package it was created in.

The object is now in the Explorer window under Imported Models.
